Ros has been working for over 40 years as a voice teacher, voice director and voice and dialect specialist for Theatre, Film and TV.
After studying at The Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, now the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (RCS), and The University of Glasgow, she taught for many years at RCS where she first encountered Nadine and her work. She was immediately drawn to it and has continued to work closely with her for over 35 years. As Head of Research and the Centre for Voice in Performance she was instrumental in pioneering the adoption of Nadine George Voice Work into the drama performance curricula as the core spoken vocal technique of RCS, the first mainstream UK conservatoire to have done so.
At the same time, she pioneered the work as a medium of rehearsal in professional theatre contexts, establishing a new role for the voice specialist in production. Her many credits include major theatres such as the National Theatre of Scotland (NTS), The Royal Shakespeare Company, the Citizens’ Theatre and the Traverse Theatre where she specialised in the new writing premieres of a whole generation of now established playwrights. Her work in media includes films, TV and radio productions as well as the multinational company RedBeeMedia.
She has worked with many influential directors including Giles Havergal, Philip Howard and Dominic Hill and was the first Visiting Scholar to the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study at Harvard University where she worked with long term associate John Tiffany during his tenure there as a Research Fellow. Having previously worked on his landmark production Black Watch, they subsequently worked on Alan Cumming’s acclaimed Macbeth for NTS, first seen in Scotland before transferring to Broadway.
